So, when you close your eyes and dream, do you see yourself exactly where you are, or are you on a beach, with a bunch of beach babes, and enjoying the sun and waves? Are you in your mansion, with little kids' laughter filling the room, and your dream husband? Are you in a big office and you’ve hired a ton of people and you’re probably on Forbes magazine? Are you the best artist, being told by Ye that you’re the GOAT no, cap? (I had to put this one in, lol) If that’s you then this is for you and a couple of steps to get you there.
We all have dreams and we all long for the future to be better than our present, and even better than our wildest dreams, so here’s a few tips on how to get to a place where you don’t have to dream yourself out of your present so you’re happy.
You have to be happy where you are.
This sounds very stupid and frankly, the exact opposite of what you came here for but stay with me for a little bit, yeah? If you’re not happy where you are, with who you are right now and where you’re at right now, no amount of money, wealth, fame or ambition will fill that hole. I’m not asking you to be satisfied with where you’re at, because that hunger and longing for a better life will keep you going, but I’m asking you to appreciate where you’re at right now. I live by the motto, one day at a time, and each moment never comes back. You’re wasting your life right now, wishing it away for a better life. You have this moment, be happy with what you have as you work to achieve what you want. That way even the process to the end is appreciated and not wasted and also, you’re not treating different stages of your life like a transition period, but you’re living your life.
Find out why you want those things.
Another thing is finding out why you want those things, and you have to be honest with yourself. If it’s to fill a hole, for revenge and all, those are good motivators but your tank will run empty soon, or worse it will never be full because you keep trying to put things in the wrong place. In everyone’s heart, I believe, there’s space for everything, for your God, your friends and everything else, you need to put the right things in the right place and that includes the desire for wealth or a better life or all that you dream about.
Do things everyday that will build that life.
Here’s the hardest part; it’s easier to dream your life but harder to actually build it, why? We’re life couch potatoes. We don’t want to put in the work. We live in a world where overnight sensation and fame is actually believed to be a thing and so it keeps the rest of us waiting for the same visitation from the “gods of fame.” You need to get up, get off your lazy butt and do something. Build your life slowly, and slowly. Rome was never built in a day, and everyone who’s made it started somewhere small, with what they had and a dream, so should you. Do something. Do something that takes you closer to that dream. I once saw a blog or a quote, or something that said the following; (I’m summarizing this and the credits go to the author) “We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then, with a shock, we realize we have to live in the house we have built and you cannot go back. You are the carpenter, you are the builder, and everyday you hammer in a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Someone once said, “Life is a do-it-yourself project.” Your attitude, and the choices you make today, help build the “house” you will live in tomorrow. Therefore, Build wisely!”
Get mentors, friends and accountability partners.
You want to do something but you don’t know what to do? Get a mentor, the whole world is connected right now and it’s easy to even pick a guy off of YouTube University and make him your mentor. Take advantage of this global village and be the person you were meant to be. Take advantage of the closeness of people, things and materials. Better than anything, find someone who knows you to help you walk through this journey and help you to never lose sight of who you are, and what you want and why you want it.
Hope, pray and believe.
I have a strong belief in a Creator and I will not force you to believe in Him, but Jesus changed my life and He will change your life too. (I promise, there’s a lot about that in my blog, check it out). I think believing in yourself is always the first step and it is a big step, because if you don’t think you are capable of doing crap, even if every single soul on this earth believes that, you will not do it because you don’t think you can. You’ve gotta believe in yourself, you have to because you’re so worth it. You’re so worth it. You are so…I can dwell on that point for forever, FYI…
Surround yourself with the right people.
It takes a village. Position yourself for greatness. Make sure your village is full of people pushing you to be better, and to make better choices. You surround yourselves with people on your wavelength so ya’ll can support each other. I really love Dynasty, the TV show for the drama, Liz Gillies and Rafael De La Fuente, but one thing I love is how each millionaire or billionaire helps the other become even better, or multiply the 5 loaves of bread in their basket. Find people who’ll do the same, and help you. Find friends that push you, and not drag you down. We don’t do that here.
I hope you believe in yourself to do what you want and live the life you want or always envisioned for yourself. If you can’t believe in yourself, you should see a therapist, or a counselor because you need to get out of your head. You’re very much worth it and capable. I think so, you should too.
